When it comes to building a healthy plate, MyPlate is an excellent resource to get you started in setting a healthy foundation. MyPlate is the current nutrition guide published by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion.

Designed as a food circle, it represents a place setting with a plate and glass divided into five food groups. Regardless of cultural or food preferences, to find a healthy eating style that can be maintained for a lifetime.

  • Make half your plate fruits and vegetables, varying your choices and opting for whole fruit and vegetables as often as possible

  • Make half your grains whole grains

  • Vary your protein intake, including more plant-based sources

  • Move to low fat or nonfat milk and yogurt

  • Drink and eat less sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars
